In this chapter, we learn that Caixin is the only survivor of the entire village, and that he is the "hope for the future" . Caixin tells us that he was attracted by the "spirit" of the sky that was rising above the village. He says that the village is in ruins and that no one survived. He adds that the only thing that makes him a "cosmopolitan guardian" is that he never feels like he is "supreme" in the eyes of the universe.
