The scene opens with a description of a group of people gathered in front of a tianxing temple. The group is made up of the core members of the school and the extended clan members. The mother of the cang clan and the leader of the tianxian school are there, along with his brother and his brother's wife. The woman tells the group that the extinguished fires of the clan members are on a candle stand on the other side of the temple. She also tells them that theirs are on top of the candle stand because they are the last ones to die. The two women decide to say their last goodbyes to each other. They are about to go for a walk when suddenly the woman notices that someone is assigned to practice with the other two cang disciples.
