In this chapter, we learn that the spirit of the mountain man only asks for living human beings. In other words, the spirit wants to know if there's anyone out there who's willing to sacrifice their lives for the sake of a living being. This is the first time we've heard of this kind of thing, and we're not sure what it means. It's not like the spirit is saying, "Hey, I'm going to kill you, but I need you to be a human being so that I can kill you." The spirit is just asking for a living person, and that's it. We're pretty sure that this isn't going to be the last time we hear of this sort of thing.
