The scene opens with a soliloquy by the Governess, in which she tells her husband that she is going back to the Ming household. She tells him that she has received a call from the Ming family asking her to come to Ming's house. The Governess tells him to hold off on going to the house until she has more time to think things over with her husband. She asks him to tell her what he is thinking, so that she can continue to trust him in the future.
