The narrator complains that he has been writing poems for five years and has been relying on his parents to help him with his living costs. He feels that he should write an iou, but that this woman has to be there because Ren is so arrogant and confident. Ren hates him and leaves the iou. The narrator tells Songci that he is done writing and that he will be leaving the next day if there is nothing else to write about. Songci tells him that she will catch up to him and ask for his forgiveness. He tells her that if there was nothing else, he would be leaving then. He asks her if she is following him and she replies that she is not. She asks him if he is following her and he replies that if he were her he would go find work right away and not depend on cheating women. He then asks her why she does not allow him to approach her and she says that she wants to destroy her relationship with Renqian. She then asks him what he is planning on doing and he says that he wants to kill her
