The next day, Songci confronts Minghuan about the accident. Minghuan tells her that he is fine and that he will be coming to see her the next day. He tells Songci that he has met a poet named Ren Qian, who is very different from the other poets he knows. The poet refuses to pay Minghuan for the damage he has done to Songci's body, but Minghuan is able to pay for the damages. He says that he plans to use his father's connection to help Ren Qian find a publisher who will publish his poetry collection.
