This chapter opens with a discussion of the effects of the mixing of grey and crimson substances. It is clear that the two substances do not have the same corrosion effect as one would expect. The two men discuss the fact that they have only one province left, and that the black dwarf has given the greys all of the important things. The black dwarf says that he would rather die than accept the conditions. He asks the young man to give him an order. The young man tells him that he cannot accept the methods of the dwarf, and he will only listen to his orders. He says that things might change after the negotiations is over. He adds that he agreed to the terms of the previous agreement, now it is his turn to ask for more. He tells the boy next to him to tell him about the last terms, and the two men agree that they will not attack each other during the next five years. They also agree that the source of their conflict is their desire to conquer each other's race. The boy tells them that they had an agreement seventeen years before, and have a duel with one who has caused them trouble all this time. He wants to manifest the eight crimson equipments. He also wants to combine the grey and the crimson substances, so that he will be as strong back then as he was back then. He admits that it is tempting, and they will work together to destroy the three
