This chapter's epigraph comes from a conversation between the two men in which they discuss the wound the gu eagle sustained in the battle. The gu eagle was wounded by a huge crossbow, which would have been interpreted as an arrow piercing the eagle's skin. The eagle was almost killed by the scud, but the eagle survived. The two men discuss the possibility of killing the eagle, but they decide that killing him would be like stepping on an ant's toes. They decide to wait until the windor house is seized so that no one will suspect that the supreme sect is behind it. They wait for the meeting hall to open, and when they do, they find that isabella has told them that they were in collusion with the stark house and that the eagle almost died. They are both furious with each other for accusing each other of betraying the family.
