About This Chapter
The doctor explains that the symptoms of his sister's illness are similar to those of a snakebite: she feels burning all over her body, and her circulation is blocked. The root of the herb that the snakebite victim used to poison her is called "seven-star grass" because it originates in a snake-infested island off the east coast of Africa. The person who poisoned her actually wanted her dead, but he added herbs to neutralize the poison so that she wouldn't be able to grow the herb again. The doctor says that if the person had wanted his sister dead, he would have killed her earlier, but since the herb is a deadly poison, she would not have died earlier. He tells Baron that his sister has made him a cripple, and that he should keep his mouth shut if he doesn't have the strength to deal with the poisoner. He says that he has no idea how the man who poisoned his sister is planning to get baron into danger, and he wonders whether he will get involved. He plans to write a prescription for her to get her back on her feet, then use golden needles to force the poison from her body. The treatment will last for at least a year, and the doctor promises that he will be married in 1 month.
