About This Chapter
The next morning, Eliot and his mother discuss Eliot's upcoming move to college. Eliot tells his mother that he and Jarndyce will be staying at his mother's house while he goes to school. He tells her that he'll be staying with his mom's sister, who's also leaving for college, and that he doesn't want her to stay at his house. He also tells his mom that he wants to go to the university because he's sick and needs a place to live. He asks his mother to bring him some boxes of food, but she says she can't bring all of his stuff with her, because they're all packed up in his car. Eliot asks his mom to bring some of the boxes with him, but his mom says she'll bring some with her. He's worried that he won't be able to fit everything in the car, so he tells her to take the rest with him to the dorm. He says he'd like to leave some of his boxes with his mother, but that he needs to get a hernia before he leaves, so they'll have to wait until after he leaves. Eliot then asks his parents if they can take some of their stuff with them, but their mom says they can bring it with them. He then asks if he can take his toothpaste, and his mom tells him that they carry it everywhere, so it's okay. She also tells him to call her when he gets to college, because the battery is starting to die. Eliot says that he always wondered why his uncle, Bertram, used to use a spray on his hair when he got sick, but now the battery has died.
