When the scene opens, the assassin is running away from the scene. The narrator tries to warn him, but the assassin does not want to hear it. He tells the narrator that he will not let go of anyone involved in the plot. When the narrator realizes that he is being followed by the assassin, he flees the room. When he returns, he finds that the box of hair has been given to the assassin as a token of love.
