The monster tells Mlle. Mlle that he got a fever last night and that he couldn't wake him up. He tells her that she slept on his bed with a messed-up dress. She tells him that she's only twenty and has been in the dungeon for the past few years. She says that if he had taken advantage of her, she would have been " raved in fever" . The monster says that he's glad Mlle has a fever because he'd be raving in it. He says that Mlle is happy that she doesn't have another one, because she'll be able to do something "for fun" with him. He's not worried about her, he says, because Mlle ate only a small amount of porridge the day before. He wonders if Mlle's moodiness is just because he ate porridge. He asks Mlle if he can take him in his arms to get out of the bed, and Mlle says that's impossible, since Mlle can't go back to the dungeon. He also says that since he hates the dungeon, he can just live there.
