About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator tells us that he's not sure that alex accepted his apology. He's also not sure if the narrator is trying to imply that he was trying to get an earful out of him, or if he just wants to leave it alone. The narrator asks the narrator to sit down and tell him the rest of the story. He tells the narrator about how they met, and the narrator says that she gave him her consent to murder her. He says that true love is fleeting, but that she was aware of how he felt she was expressing her love for him. She told him that she wasn't afraid at all, and that she would risk her life for his sake. He thanks the narrator for the story, but says that he has to get to work. He asks if he can pick up their car and pick up the next appointment at eight o'clock the next day. He also asks if there's anything he can do to help alex, because the narrator keeps telling himself that he is "a very tender pushy person" . He adds that he doesn't know how much help he'll be able to give to alex because he keeps trying to convince himself that it's "a tender hearted person." The narrator concludes that the scene was probably "his own twisted way" of holding a "funeral of sorts."
