About This Chapter
The chapter opens on a busy street in the middle of the night. The narrator is running late and has to buy something. He tells the others to go ahead and meet him at the school, but they don't. He says he's running late because he wants to get back to the subway station and get off at the wrong station. He explains that he met his crush on the street and that he doesn't really like her, but he knows that she's just like everyone else in the world. He wants to tell her how he feels, but she won't let him do that. He's so absorbed in his thoughts that he can't stop thinking about the future. He realizes that he wants his crush's tenderness, and when he rejected her, he wanted to be with her. He wonders why he keeps standing up and sitting down when he talks about Yaya. Yaya told him that she was going to buy some stuff and they could go back to school without her. The two of them kiss, and the narrator wonders if it's because he saved her from falling in love with someone else when he was in junior school.
