It's the middle of the night, and the narrator is walking home from work. He's exhausted, and he can't find a place to sleep. He tells the narrator that he and his family moved to this house after his father married his mother. It looks like his father bought the house, so he's going to have to move in with his father. The narrator asks the narrator to give him a hand in packing up all the useless things that are hanging around the house. He also tells him that his father has lost his job and is moving out of the house tomorrow.
