In this chapter, Ming-Yang explains that the master of the valley met an opportunity in the form of a fortuitous butterfly. The butterfly will poison anyone who comes in contact with it for a hundred years. If the person can overcome the butterfly without dying, the person's physical condition will be changed. If they use the blood of the butterfly to grow poisonous insects, the insects can control the people around them. The master of demimonde was able to use the fortuitous butterfly to rule the roost in the valley for a century, but he lost a doctor after the butterfly was discovered.
