In this short scene, we learn that the protagonist, Shmoop, has come to visit his mother, who lives on the island of Kishinev, in the Caucasus Mountains. He tells her that he wants to visit her because she is the only person in the world who has the means to go to the moon and build a space capsule. He also wants to see her because he is determined to fulfill his father's dream and fulfill his mother's desire to see him.
