About This Chapter
Dr. Mangel explains that they have revived him because of a "rainbow coalition" of people who lost the power of the state. They were able to control the people's lives through the use of drugs, hypnotism, and other means. They also have information that one of the members of the resistance was captured during the raid. They do not know his actual identity, but they know that he has been indoctrinated. They want him and the other survivors of the skar to bring them in so that they can re-condition them. They recommend that he take a few days to recover. He says that he misses the "real surgery" of the armpits, and that he is afraid that ginji may have hurt him more than he thought. He suggests that they take some time to recover, as he does not have the time for the doctor. They have also enhanced his muscle tone and facial features. They believe that once the resistance knows that they will be able to use their own survivors, they will send them back to the states. They are too immature and inexperienced, he says, and they should have stayed in the states to extend their lives. He tells Sam that he will be glad to see him again, but he has lost too much. He plans to ask Marlow some day, and he is running interference on Omni.
