This chapter's epigraph comes from a famous line from Shakespeare's play Hamlet, in which Hamlet says, "I am not a man, I am a man's servant. I am the servant of the king, and the king is my servant. The king is the master of all men, and I am his servant. Hamlet says that he is a servant, but he is also a master of the gods. He tells the audience that he has come to tell them the story of how he killed his old master, and that they are all saved. He says that they have never known that he was a half step master, but now that they know, they will go to hell. He also tells them that he fought in a real battle, but that his body was weak. They are saved, he says, because he killed their old man, and they are saved too. He then tells them about the medicine jar, and says that although he has been hiding his identity from them, their people have known for a long time that his identity was that of the traitor. He thanks him for telling him everything about the place, and asks him if it is true that he betrayed them. He asks if it was for him that they would have been able to rid of the two traitors, and if it were for him, they would not have had to kill them.
