This chapter opens with a knock at the door. It's the voice of the Governess, who's just returned from a trip with her husband. The Governess tells her husband to get out of the car and to open the trunk. She's about to enter the house when she hears a knock on the door and realizes that it's her husband's house. She opens the trunk and sees that the house is very warm and comfortable. She realizes that vampires don't usually live in this kind of house, and she's shocked that the place is so warm and cozy. She also realizes that the man in the trunk isn't a vampire, and that he's not the only one living in the house.
