This chapter opens with a description of the scene in which Dracula and the others flee from the burning town of Modegrad, where they have been captured and taken to the second-floor apartment of Persis. The three vampire slayers are led away by a "determined person" . They are followed by the crowd-sale jerk and two more vampires. As they run away, the three vampires are interrupted by the voice of the boy they saved in the burning village. The boy, who they call "libra," tells them that he was the only survivor of the village and that he remembers the skinny human as his master. He asks them to find a hiding place for him, but they refuse.
