This chapter opens with the arrival of a young woman named yuebai, who has just arrived in Shanghai. She explains that she is a student at an infirmary and that she has not yet met Ming or Zhen. She asks Ming and Zhen if they are in a relationship, and Ming replies that he is not in one. She tells him that he should respect her in the future, and she invites him to eat with her. Ming asks her what she would like to eat and she replies that it is on her "spooky smile" that frightens her. She then asks him why he should live with her if they do not live in peace. He replies that they are seeming friends, and that they should live together in peace
