The doctor tells Zechariah that the cure seems to have worked on the boy, and that they'll continue to test it on him. He says that the third trial has confirmed the previous one, and they're finally close to their goal. Zev says that he doesn't want the creatures in the pit to be able to predict what's going to happen in the future, so they should stay out of the way. He also says that if the first child says something, then it must also be true. The doctor says that they can't act fast enough, because the baby and the other children are also in the same pit. He tells Zev to shut up, because he needs to demonstrate to the audience how the tone-controlling staves work. He's not sure how they work, but he does know that the baby has been taken away by eunuch, and he's worried about the baby's safety. The tone-control staves, he says, are one of those things that fake jerusalem is supposed to do. They're so close that the rifle is useless, and the baby is too close for comfort. The baby screams, "It's okay, it's finally! shake shake shake go away! ha! . . Theyre standing still!" Zev tells the doctor to take the baby to his room. He asks where his staff is, but the doctor says he'll find them later.
