About This Chapter
This chapter's epigraph comes from a conversation between the police officer and a prostitute. The police officer tells the prostitute that he's worried that her boyfriend, taejin, will settle down in the brothel because of his "responsibility" and "irresponsibility." The prostitute, however, tells him that she's not worried about her boyfriend's "responsibility," and that he should just leave the brothel and go back to his studies abroad. The officer tells her that he doesn't want to talk about "serious matters," but he does want to have a drink with the prostitute. He's afraid that the brothel is a bad place to be talking about neighborhood security, but the prostitute says she'll be okay with it. The two of them drink together, and the officer says he'll excuse himself now if the prostitute keeps talking about him. The prostitute says that she can't understand why the officer would want to fight with her, and that the officer is just trying to humiliate her. The cop says that he won't apologize for the incident, but he'd rather apologize on his own behalf than ask the prostitute for forgiveness. He leaves the brothel, but not before asking the prostitute if she needs anything. She says she needs something, and asks the cop to pull him out of the brothel.
