The chapter opens with a soliloquy about the time when the gods will offer their blood to the gods. This time, however, it's a special night. It's also the night when a certain old woman comes to visit. The old woman is a dear friend of Gosho's, and she used to be friends with the gods when they were still alive and breathing as humans. Gosho tells the old woman that he's going to offer her his own blood tonight. She'll be able to do so because she's an old friend of his. The two men head out to get the blood, and when they get there, they find that the woman has already left. She tries to get in front of the men, but they're too busy talking to each other to do anything about it.
