The monster tells Sophie that he must kill her because she is such a cute little girl. He tells her that he is afraid he will be killed by an unknown being if he does not go to the underworld now. He says that he will wait for the danger to pass before killing her. He asks her if she used too much strength to kill the cow. She says that she did not use too much. The monster says that all that is left is for her to complete her task, earn her father's favour, and get even more gold. He finally digs a hole he could crawl out and asks her to help him.
