Willet asks where the prince is. The prince says that he's back in Paris. Willet is shocked that the prince would be acting so out of character. He tells Willet that he has read his letter and that he doesn't want him to leave. He's going to give him back double the salary he lost to the bet back in the first place. He wants to know what he has to do now that he can't keep his job. He says he'll punish anyone who spread the rumor that he was going to kill Willet. He asks Willet to sit down so they can have a drink together. He tries to massage his back, but Willet won't let him.
