The next day, Roger Williams, the general of the army, comes to visit his daughter-in-law, the princess of Spain. He tells her that he has heard rumors that her fiance, Alisandre, is not in love with her. The princess, however, has said that she wants to marry someone "who loves her," but that she does not want to marry "someone you love enough." The princess is upset that the prince does not seem to love her, and wonders why he does not love someone else. She wonders if the prince is also crushing on another woman, and she wonders if he knows this. She also wonders if there is a fight between the prince and another man, but the prince has not said who it is.
