Willet asks if the prince is planning on getting married. Willet says that the prince has decided to ask for his hand in marriage. He asks if he likes lady meronica, and she says that love is tiresome for the rich. He says that he has always taken everything for granted, and now he feels that he is inadequate for the position of king. He tells Willet that he needs to ask him something, and asks him why he has only met him now. He has known all three of Willet's sisters since childhood, but he did not know Willet until he learned about him. He wonders if both of them have suffered from "amnesia," a psychological disorder that causes people to forget their past.
