About This Chapter
The Governess tells the Governess that she will teach her everything she knows in one month. She says that she doesn't need to memorize anything, and that after a month, she'll have to write out her lessons. The Governress is frustrated, but she still thinks that the Duchess is pretty. She wonders why the regent and the furong aren't very good people. She still thinks they're not good people, and she wonders if they'll be able to teach her how to read. She also wonders why she can't write well. She's a fast learner, she says, and if she practices more, she can write well too. She knows that it's very difficult to memorize a lot of words, so she's confident that she can do it. She asks why he's so desperate to learn, and he says that he can just go to the Empress Dowager and ask for help. He says that the imperial palace isn't like a quicksand, and the more he struggles, the deeper he sinks. He's not sure if he should do something, he says, but he knows that he needs to do something.
