About This Chapter
In this short scene, Shmoop explains that he has just broken off his relationship with his high school girlfriend, who he calls "takumi" . He's going to ask her to go to a northern festival in a few days, and he hopes that she won't be jealous of the other girls there. He says that he was once a fake wife, and that he's never had anything he'd ever wanted to do with his childhood friends. When he was young, he was told he was the "least successful" of his brothers. He also says that his older sister was "brilliant" , and so he knows that his two older brothers are also "absurd brothers." He decides to make a short film of himself and his childhood friend going around in a wedding gown, and hopes that his audience will laugh at him. He asks if he can try on some of the wedding dresses at the hotel, and she says that she and her friend are both "genetically identical." They're not married, she says, and they're going to do something "shocking" in order to "stun" the audience. She says she's not going to give her childhood friend away to someone who's just going to make her miserable.
