About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's going to be leaving Costa Rica soon. He's been working extra hours to support his wife, and she has a new man living with her. He tells Costa Rica that he needs to find a new place to live, because he can't bear to be without her. Costa Rica is a small country, and he and his wife have to share a tiny apartment. The narrator says that he and Costa Rica are two people in one room, and that the space between them is hard to move in. He says that Costa Rica's new man is selfish, and doesn't have the restraint to restrain himself, like a man would. He asks Costa Rica if she's cohabiting with him, and the narrator says she is, but Costa Rica says no. The two of them talk about how they're going to starve to death if they don't move out of Costa Rica. Costa Rican says he'll eat more than dinner, but the narrator reminds him that he can cook a whole lot of food. He compares this to the time he used to have, when he had a lot of money. He thanks Costa Rica for letting him use his leftovers from his food, and says that it's nice to be able to reach Costa Rica from anywhere. He also says that his company will be coming to an end soon, because his wife is going to ship out to Japan.
