About This Chapter
The maid, Hiramasa, complains to her employer, the insurance company she works for, that she has to listen to her clients' stories about how their lives have been ruined because of her work. She says that she quit working for the company a year ago because she found it hard to bear the daily grind of running a household. She tells her employer that she and her mother are worried that people from all over the world are having fun together, but that as soon as a foreigner shows up, people start to disperse. The maid wonders if she should just push her employer until he is fired. She thinks that she would pay for hiramasa if she were his girlfriend, but she has trouble bringing herself to care about her if she got dressed up for him even though they are not dating. She wonders if he lacks confidence, but he seems to have a good personality and a stable income. He tries to get by life by refusing human contact.
