About This Chapter
Mikuri and moriyama discuss Mikuri's job search. Mikuri says that she's been looking for work for a long time, but that she hasn't found it yet because she went to a "hemicultures-oriented" school, which doesn't seem to have helped her search for a job in the first place. Tamura chimes in that Mikuri has a tough time keeping the house tidy, since she works so much. She's not married or had kids, but she lives with her parents, so she can't really afford to live on her own if she loses her job. Miuchi asks Tamura what "work" means, and Tamura says that it's hard to think about housework when you're doing it all day long, but Mikuri agrees that housework is more important than it used to be. She tells Tamura that she thinks it would have been better to get married and get a divorce than not get married at all, since everyone wants to know what she did wrong. Miachi asks Mikuri if she needs her health insurance card, and Miuchi says that her boss told her to go to see a doctor, so Miuchi goes to get it. She asks Miuchi if she can make her some "ojiya" , which is a dish Miuchi makes for her son, and she says she'll make it for Miuchi, since Miuchi's clothes are too plain. She also tells Miuchi that Miuchi is glad that her son's fever has finally gone away, because it means Miuchi can go home and pay Miuchi for the next time she comes to visit him. She says that being married would make it easier for her to work as a maid, because she'd be able to stay at home with her husband, and it would be easier to have her as a wife, since it would mean that she wouldn't have to go back to school for a bachelor's degree. She adds that being divorced seems like a pretty prejudiced idea to her, since people think that divorced people are more likely to be poor than married people, and that's why Miuchi has trouble finding a job.
