In this chapter, we learn about the love triangle between Don Juan and Elmire. In the beginning of the chapter, Don Juan tells Elmire that he loves her, and she tells him that she loves him back, but she can't tell him what she loves because she's been in love with him for ten years. She asks him to say "I love you" before she dies, but he doesn't want to tell her, so he gives up his life in order to save her
