The chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which the narrator explains that he has just returned from the battlefield. He has just witnessed a battle between two of the most powerful warriors in the history of the world, and he is very excited about the upcoming battle. He is also excited because the opponent is the one who has been training for the past three years on the "three autumn leaves" secret skill. He believes that the opponent will be able to defeat him because he has mastered the secret skill and because he is so fast. He also believes that his opponent is so strong that he will soon be defeated. The narrator then goes on to explain that the battle will be decided on the strength of the opponent, and that the winner will be named the "great disciple" of the academy
