In this chapter, we're introduced to a new character, a young woman named Panache. Panache is the daughter of a pirate captain named Ambrogio. Ambrogio is the son of Panache's mother, and Panache tells us that she's the mother of Ambrogio's son. She's also the mom of the little rat, who Ambrogio has taken away from Panache as a punishment for drinking too much water. She tells Ambrogio that if he ever gets the chance to be her husband, she'll kill him.
