About This Chapter
The scene opens with the police in attendance. The narrator tells the audience that the police are there to get the attention of the press. He says that if the press would come out and talk about what happened here, reporters would not be able to keep it a secret. He tells the boy that he was told that he would not believe his father if he showed up at work. The boy asks the police if he can have his receipts organized. He is told that if he does not organize his receipts by the end of the workday, he will be expected to be on his best behavior the next day. He asks the boy if he already knows that he is expected to behave on the following day, and the boy says that he does. He explains that he has already organized his receipts, and that he turns to the room to organize them. He wonders if the boy is afraid of his father, and wonders if words alone are not getting through to him. He then asks if she has finished all her work, and she says that she still has a meeting with the factory contact point. She asks if there is someone in the room, and he says that there is. The scene ends with the boy asking if someone is in the meeting.
