The next morning, the Governess apologizes to Elmire for not showing up for work the day before. She tells Elmire that she's "totally screwed" , and she promises to make things right with Elmire. The Governess then goes on to say that Elmire is lucky to have gotten off scot-free, and that she should "count her self lucky" to get off "scot-scot - free" . Elmire says she'll call on Elmire when she gets home, but she can't find her anywhere.
