The narrator tells us that he and Ende have decided to take their leave of the woman they've just met. He's worried that she's been avoiding him, but Ende reminds him that he's not avoiding her, he just wants to avoid her. The two women begin to argue about whether or not they're avoiding each other, and when Ende finally realizes that she has been acting cold, she asks him to stop fooling around with her. She tells him that she needs to tell Ende what's going on, but she can't stop him.
