The chapter opens with a flashback to the previous boss's last words to his son: "I want you to be a figurehead." The previous boss wanted his son to be the company's ceo, but the new boss wants him to keep the title, but run the company himself. The new boss says that they don't want to change anything about the company, because they want to make sure that the son can do whatever he wants. The old boss says he'd acknowledge the son's position if the son had a "char acter befitting ceo" . The boss says they'll find out whether the son is fit to hold the position, but he won't say whether or not he'll be ceo until the end of the fiscal year.
