The chapter opens with the narrator lamenting the fact that he has been rejected by his employer, the human resources manager . He tells us that he is going to "wash his hands of love" and "move on" from his job. He is also worried about how he will be able to deal with the demands of his new position. He asks fujihira if he can ask her to do some accounting work for him. She agrees to do it for him if he would like. The chapter ends with a soliloquy by the narrator in which he says that he got through his week at work.
