Back at the brothel, Hayao and Hayao talk about the ghosts they've seen in the past. Hayao warns Hayao not to tease the ghosts, as they're both human beings. He says that fighting and killing isn't a game, and that it's not a good idea to try to reduce a man's prison sentence by being mindful of his past. But Hayao doesn't care, and he and his father aren't going to get into any more fights with the ghosts. He tells Hayao that he's allowed himself to think about the future, and now that he has served his prison sentence, he'll be able to think more about his relationship with Hayao.
