In this chapter, we learn that the young prince's wife, lian, has turned against him. She's been spying on him for ten years, and she's convinced that he's the one who's responsible for his father's death. He's innocent, she says, and he'll be punished for his crimes. The old man, Mr. Zhan, tells us that lian has been a good nurse for the prince, and that she has treated him like his own son. He doesn't think lian is responsible for the death of his father, but he does think that she must be behind it.
