In this short scene, the young hollmann girl, Anna, tells her father, the king, that she wants him to find her a worthy queen. Her father, however, refuses to do so, and she is left to wonder how she can live in the rathole of the forest without food or shelter. She begs the king to help her, but he refuses to tell her her name. She tells him that even though she is the daughter of a master chef, she is a bad cook. She asks the king if he can help her turn into gold, and he tells her that she can do so. She then tells the king that she has made a special dress out of gold thread, and that she will dress him in the dress if he wishes. The king is not interested, and the girl tells him to hurry up.
