In this chapter, we learn that the landlord of the welfare home is planning to demolish the building and replace it with a new one. The landlord's son, Siang, comes to the rescue of the tenants and convinces Siang that they should buy the building from the landlord for a profit. Siang explains that he is the son of the man who originally planned the building, and Siang will inherit the property once he inherits it.
