The narrator tells us that he has friends from every walk of life, and that he's seen the woman at the hospital. He says that he can tell that the man really likes her, but he can't tell if it was a mistake or if she's still alive. The narrator says that if the woman is really alive, then he and claire can only confirm it, but if she is not, then everything will need to be changed. He's honored to be one of the guests at the banquet, and he tells the narrator that he wants to play the female lead in the new movie by director Quentin. He explains that he badgered the man into bringing him to the banquet because he doesn't know how to deal with the woman. He also says that the woman carried him out of the hotel that night
