About This Chapter
The metabaron, the guardianess of the universe, is found in the depths of the lake, where she is reunited with her servant, the Tonto. The Tonto explains that he was able to retrieve all of his memories from the ship's cockpit by using a tiny diode that contained all of the information about the ship. He explains that his memory was reawakened by a "burst of energy" that "reawakened my memory" . He tells the story of how the schroeder ended up in the lake and how he followed him to the "stranger" that was connected to algoma. He says that the masters all went through this "quantum portal" and that they have never come back. He also says that he could hear the heart beat of the meta-baron through the "outer shell" of the sphere. He wonders if he lost courage when he saw the "savages" taking him captive. He asks if the master is going to allow the savages to treat him this way, and he says that no one can treat the "metabaron" this way. He adds that if the "bushitaka" still ruled the world, he would have killed the master long ago, but he warns the master that his "patience has its limits." He asks the master
