About This Chapter
The metabaron chases after them like a dog chasing its tail. He's just a human who has his brain between his legs. The narrator tells us that he's not showing any compassion for the monster. He says that the monster's hunger is for food, and that's why he can't have limits on his appetite. The war drew more attention to the problem at hand, he says, than the disappearance of his master. He also says that they'll use this catastrophe as an excuse to "impose special measures" on the people. He asks if they're going back to the techno-pope, and the narrator says no. They'll just have to disguise themselves as a woman and wait for the ship to arrive. He tells the narrator that he was hiding as a man when they left, but now he can transform himself into a woman. He wants to know where the others are, and he'd like to know what interests him right now. He doesn't want to know who they are, but he also wants to find out what they've been up to. He knows that he has fallen in love with Orgon, and Orgon is the daughter of his worst enemy, the meta-baron. He declares that he won't seek Orgon's death, because it was Orgon who blew Orgon up into a million pieces.
