The chapter opens with a flashback to six months earlier, when basilisk, a member of the kouga clan, is talking to the man who is the leader of the manjidani clan. The man, who is also known as "Shougen Dono," tells basilisk that it is a bad day to be out on the water because the stars say it is dangerous. He tells the man that he has decided to go fishing instead of going to see his daughter. He asks the man why he would bother going all the way to see her when he could go fishing with him instead. He also tells him that he would rather be with him than with the guy who thinks he is going to meet her. He says that he will chop off the head of the little girl when he sees her when she arrives at the lake. He adds that the igara clan should not break the peace treaty with the sakura clan because the two clans have been fighting for so long that they have finally come to the point of breaking it off. He then tells his mother that the time has come to break the "chains of hate" that have weighed them down for so many years. She says that she has already made up her mind. She tells her mother that she will go to the lake with him. She then tells her father that he is very pleased with her decision. She adds that she is sorry that he seems to have taken her with him, as he seems quite taken with her. She also tells her that ogen seems to be pleased with his decision to make his daughter's clan an odd one again
